Toward a Basic Understanding of: Substance Abuse

 

This educational series is presented by Seminole Behavioral Healthcare as part of its commitment toward a greater community understanding and response to those suffering from behavioral disorders. It is one of six components of Mental Health First Aid. The objectives of this course are as follows:

Through participation in this course, attendees will be able to:

  1. Define substance abuse and how the differences between use, abuse, and dependence
  2. Describe Marijuana including its effects and safety concerns
  3. Describe Cocaine including its effects and safety concerns
  4. Describe Ecstasy including its effects and safety concerns
  5. Describe GHB including its effects and safety concerns
  6. Describe Xanax including its effects and safety concerns
  7. Describe Oxycontin including its effects and safety concerns
  8. Describe Hallucinogens including their effects and safety concerns
  9. Understand how a layperson might respond to someone with a substance abuse problem
  10. Understand the resources available to those in Central Florida who have a substance abuse concern
