This educational series is presented by Seminole Behavioral Healthcare as part of its commitment toward a greater community understanding and response to those suffering from behavioral disorders. It is one of six components of Mental Health First Aid. The objectives of this course are as follows:
Through participation in this course, attendees will be able to:
- Define self-injury including the range of behaviors it describes
- Describe the personal risk factors contributing to self-injury
- Describe the social and family environmental factors contributing to self-injury
- Describe the psychological risk factors contributing to self-injury
- Describe the biological risk factors contributing to self-injury
- Describe the situational factors contributing to self-injury
- Understand how a layperson can best respond to self-injuring behavior
- Describe how clinicians respond to self-injuring behavior
- Understand the resources available to those in Central Florida who experience self-injury
