This educational series is presented by Seminole Behavioral Healthcare as part of its commitment toward a greater community understanding and response to those suffering from behavioral disorders. It is one of six components of Mental Health First Aid. The objectives of this course are as follows:
- Define depression, and be able to list the basic symptoms of depression
- Understand the prevalence of depression among adults and adolescents
- Understand the impact of depression on society
- Know the basic myths and facts about suicidal behavior
- Learn the basic steps of a suicide risk screening, and hw to respond as a lay-person
- Identify the basic responses used by clinicians to address depression
- List basic resources in Central Florida to help those with symptoms of depression
